Over time, the soil in our lawns becomes denser and denser. The more compacted our soil becomes, the less nutrients can move through it and into our roots. Additionally, our grass’ roots won’t be able to penetrate any deeper to collect more nutrients. If this is the case, your lawn may need seasonal aeration treatments.
Greater Nutrient Distribution
When soil is loosened through our aeration processes, our fertilizer compounds are able to seep deeper into the soil and spread further throughout. Loose soil also absorbs water much better allowing your grass to receive all nutrients more evenly and consistently.
Deeper Root Growth
The deeper our root systems are, the stronger our grass can become. The deeper the roots we have, the more nutrients can be collected and stored through those roots. Additionally, those roots will have greater access to water found deeper in the soil.
Better Water Drainage
Another downside to having compacted soil is water doesn’t drain as easily, which can cause flooding and erosion of your lawn. It also causes places where water pools to kill your grass. When soil is loosened, typically with aeration, water is able to be absorbed as it runs through your lawn. A properly aerated lawn means less flooding.
